Tuesday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings (8/4)
Tarik Skubal (SP – LAD) at Chicago Cubs
Tarik Skubal will make his debut for the Dodgers tonight in a challenging matchup. According to FanGraphs, the Cubs are first in wRC+ (119) with a 22.0 K% versus lefties and first in wRC+ (118) with a 20.6 K% at home in 2026. Chicago is also seventh in wRC+ (108) with a 23.5 K% in the previous 30 days and sixth in wRC+ (111) with a 24.0 K% in the previous 14 days. Fortunately, Skubal is talented enough that he’s matchup-proof.
The lefty has excelled on the road this year, with a 2.05 ERA, 2.23 xFIP, 0.87 WHIP, 2.7 BB% and 30.1 K% in 48.1 innings on the road. The 2024 and 2025 American League Cy Young Award winner is also dialed in. He has amassed the following numbers in his previous five starts spanning 31 innings:
- 3 Wins
- 3 Quality Starts
- 2.03 ERA
- 2.39 xERA
- 2.41 xFIP
- 2.53 SIERA
- 0.90 WHIP
- 5.0 BB%
- 34.2 K%
- 19.8 SwStr%
- 32.7 CSW%
- 114 stuff+
- 103 location+
- 115 pitching+
The betting info is also favorable for Skubal. The Dodgers are -210 favorites, and the game’s total is 9.0 runs.
Logan Henderson (SP – MIL) vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
Logan Henderson is validating his encouraging five starts for the Brewers in his first taste of the Majors last year. He also hasn’t slowed down since returning from the injured list (IL). In four starts, totaling 21 innings, since returning from the IL in July, Henderson has rattled off the following stats:
- 3 Wins
- 0 Quality Starts
- 2.57 ERA
- 2.32 xERA
- 2.83 xFIP
- 2.79 SIERA
- 0.76 WHIP
- 3.8 BB%
- 30.4 K%
- 11.5 SwStr%
- 29.2 CSW%
- 103 stuff+
- 104 location+
- 102 pitching+
Henderson’s lack of quality starts makes him a less appealing pick at FanDuel than at DraftKings. However, he’s a stellar pick in GPPs at DraftKings.
Henderson’s matchup is mixed. The Pirates are second in wRC+ (113) with a 23.5 K% versus righties but tied for 16th in wRC+ (97) with a 25.9 K% on the road this year. Furthermore, Pittsburgh is 18th in wRC+ (97) with a 23.9 K% in the previous 30 days and 28th in wRC+ (69) with a 23.6 K% in the previous 14 days. So, the Brewers are -165 favorites, and the game’s total is 7.5 runs.
MacKenzie Gore (SP – TEX) vs. San Francisco Giants
MacKenzie Gore‘s home-road splits are significant this year, favoring pitching at home. In 57.1 innings at home this season, the lefty has spun a 3.61 ERA, 3.31 xFIP, 1.08 WHIP, 6.5 BB%, and 28.1 K%. His underlying data lately is also outstanding, despite his 6.41 ERA in his previous five starts, totaling 26.2 innings. Gore’s 3.64 xERA, 3.60 xFIP, 3.16 SIERA, 1.20 WHIP, 4.3 BB%, and 27.8 K% in those starts are more favorable marks.
He has an OK matchup tonight. The Giants are tied for 22nd in wRC+ (91) with a 22.6 K% versus lefties and tied for 11th in wRC+ (99) with a 21.0 K% on the road this season, but the club traded Heliot Ramos and Luis Arraez. San Francisco is also tied for 12th in wRC+ (103) with a 21.5 K% in the previous 30 days and 13th in wRC+ (98) with a 19.9 K% in the previous 14 days.
Gore’s betting info is tantalizing, further supporting the case for using him. The Rangers are -200 favorites, and the game’s total is 7.5 runs.
Suggested Lineup Stacks
Hunter Dobbins is listed as the probable starter for the Cardinals. He’s split time between St. Louis’s rotation and bullpen, and he’s also split time between the Majors and Triple-A. In his four starts spanning 19.2 innings for the Cardinals, Dobbins has an underwhelming 4.12 ERA, 3.80 xERA, 4.27 xFIP, 4.36 SIERA, and 1.37 WHIP. He also has only a 4.16 ERA, 4.14 xERA, and 4.90 xFIP in 13 Triple-A starts in 2026.
The Rays are hoping to fix Freddy Peralta, but he was dreadful in 22 starts for the Mets, with a 4.99 ERA, 3.83 xERA, 4.26 xFIP, and 4.30 SIERA. He’s been at his worst on the road this year, with a 6.31 ERA, 4.59 xFIP and 1.58 WHIP in 45.2 innings. Coors Field isn’t the place for Peralta to solve his road woes.
