Fantasy football is a game of numbers and statistics. In general, players who compile better statistics over the course of the season are more valuable for fantasy, but sometimes the season-long numbers don’t tell the whole story. In most leagues, matchups are played weekly, and a metric that can be used to display a player’s ability to produce week-to-week can be very helpful to describe their impact for fantasy. Enter the Ultimate Draft Kit: Consistency Tool. This tool has become one of my favorites to use when building a team. Fantasy managers can use the consistency tool to quickly compare the week-to-week consistency of players as well as season-to-season consistency going back all the way to 2015.

Let’s take a look at how the Consistency Tool works.

    Career Snapshot Tool

Let’s start with the career snapshot tool. Navigate to your UDK by visiting www.thefantasyfootballers.com and logging into your UDK account. Click the “My UDK”, hover over “Consistency”, and click “Career Snapshot Tool” from the dropdown menu. This will open up a page displaying every relevant player for fantasy from last season and their season-long finishes dating back to 2015, sortable by position.

You can play around within this tool by sorting either alphabetically, by total fantasy points scored, or by average fantasy points scored since 2015. Of course, a lot has changed since 2015, so you may not want to weigh that data too heavily on draft day, but it’s fun to look at career trends all in one place. Not to mention, you can impress your friends when you tell them Russell Wilson has scored more fantasy points than any other active player over the last decade.

    Weekly Snapshot Tool

When you are done reminiscing about all your championships and the players who helped you win them over the past 10 years, navigate back to the Consistency tab and click the “Weekly Snapshot Tool” option from the dropdown menu.

This is where the consistency tool really starts to flex its muscles, in my opinion. The color-coded spreadsheet allows you to easily view players’ weekly finishes at their position from last season. Hint: you’re looking for a lot of green.

The colors correspond to the following weekly finishes by position group:

Top 12 and up in consistency.Top 12 and up in consistency.

The weekly snapshot tool also allows you to filter out players by the minimum number of games played, as well as narrow down your search to a selected range of weeks. One could use this tool to learn that Bijan Robinson averaged 22.3 fantasy points per game from weeks 6-18 last year, including 10 Top-12 finishes and only one finish outside the Top-24 at the position. That sounds like a player worth considering at the 1.01 in drafts this year. On the other side of things, D’Andre Swift finished as the RB19 last year in total fantasy points, but the consistency numbers don’t look quite as good. He had some spike weeks in the form of five Top-12 finishes, but he also finished outside the Top-24 eight times, including four finishes outside the Top-36. This inconsistency suggests to me that, despite a solid season statistically, Swift left his fantasy managers hanging more often than not.

    Consistency Percentages

By navigating back to the “Consistency” tab and clicking one of the positional consistency options, you can view each player’s consistency in the form of percentages.

Player consistency for RB.Player consistency for RB.

The percentages tell you how frequently said player finishes in each bucket, and the tool allows you to look back as far as three seasons.

Here is an example of a way to use this feature within the consistency tool:

Alvin Kamara has been one of the more consistent RBs over the past few seasons, finishing in the Top 24 73.8% of the time, but he hasn’t provided a ton of week-winning performances, finishing in the Top 12 just 33.3% of the time. Should this trend continue, consider him a rock-solid RB2 option for fantasy this year, but lacking the upside of a true RB1.

The Consistency Tool in the UDK provides savvy managers with numerous data points that they can use to help prepare for drafts this season. Go get your UDK today and make sure to check out the Consistency Tool as one of many options to help you dominate your draft this year!
