In the Premier League, Manchester City closed the gap to leaders Arsenal to just four points, trouncing defending champions Liverpool by a 3-0 scoreline in Pep Guardiola’s 1,000th game in management.
Earlier, Aston Villa thrashed in-form AFC Bournemouth 4-0 and Brentford beat Newcastle United 3-1. Sean Dyche’s Nottingham Forest also picked up a 3-1 win at home to Leeds United, while Brighton & Hove Albion travelled to Crystal Palace in tetchy game but could only draw 0-0.
Meanwhile, in Spain’s LaLiga, league leaders Real Madrid were held to a frustrating scoreless draw by Rayo Vallecano.
