Tyson Fury has ditched his long-time trainer and claims he will be preparing for his upcoming return to the ring on his own.
The two-time heavyweight champion won his second world title in 2020 under the tutelage of Sugarhill Steward, after Ben Davison got him back into fighting shape back in 2018. However, for what is his latest major comeback he claims he will go without a head coach.
Fury says that he will be channeling Clubber Lang; Mr T’s character from Rocky 3, as he ‘trains alone’. He has based his camp out of Thailand, where he claims his mental health benefits from year-round sunshine as opposed to the UK.

Tyson Fury claims he will train alone for Arslanbek Makhmudov fight
After months in Thailand where he has spent time with family as well as training intensively, Tyson Fury jetted into London for his first face-off with Arslanbek Makhmudov. He and the giant Russian held a media day, with hundreds of press in attendance from around the world.
And asked about his plans for training camp, he claimed that he wouldn’t need a head coach at all after his split with Steward.
“I’m like Clubber Lang,” Fury said on the Netflix broadcast of today’s pre-fight press conference at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. “I’m going to train alone.” When Lennox Lewis noted that he ‘knows what to do’ because he has been through so many camps, Fury replied in the affirmative.
“I know what to do, I know how to go 12 rounds, I know how to push myself when I need to but I also know when to take a rest when I need to. Boxing, people try to make it so much like rocket science but it’s not.
“As long as you train hard and eat well and get plenty of rest, I think the rest of it if you’re experienced like I’m an experienced veteran in this game sometimes you need people to point stuff out to you and remind you of certain aspects.
“But what I don’t know about my own body now, I’m never going to know.”
