    Why Chalkboard?

In a market saturated with More or Less prediction contests, Chalkboard has found a way to stand out and to do so prominently. Options are king for those who like prediction games, and Chalkboard seemingly has it all. There are the more traditional full game lines for all of the stats you’d normally see, like passing yards, completions, rushing yards, receptions, receiving yards, and rushing and receiving touchdowns, but Chalkboard takes their offering a step further by offering opportunities to predict First TD, Anytime TD, Long rush, Long reception, and Long completion. But wait, there is more: kicker stats to make predictions on, fumbles, IDP stats like sacks and interceptions, and a game-changer like combined tackles plus assists. If that wasn’t enough, Chalkboard also offers first quarter and first half stat lines to make predictions on. Chalkboard is the new game in town.

At this point, I likely do not need to explain how More or Less contests work, but for those newer to the space, simply select More or Less on a given stat to make your prediction. You must combine at least two predictions and can make up to eight. Each stat line has a multiplier attached to the More and the Less, which generally correspond to the probability of said stat line ending in said result. There are also alt lines or alternate lines that allow you more control over what stat totals you have to work with.

    Alternate Lines

Alternate lines are a helpful tool that can help you to increase your multiplier if you’re confident in a certain stat prediction or can help you to mitigate the risk if you feel more comfortable with a lowered stat line in return for a reduced multiplier. To illustrate, let’s take a look at Saquon Barkley for Week 1. He is currently listed at 96.5 rushing yards, a number that is perfectly attainable for a runner who averaged 125.3 rushing yards per game last season. However, deeper analysis reveals that Barkley failed to hit more than 85 rushing yards three times during the season, including once against Dallas (66 rushing yards). So if we no longer feel comfortable with 96.5 but still want Saquon on our ticket, we have the option of selecting an alternate line. If we drop the total to 90 rushing yards, we get a 1.55x multiplier down from the original 1.70x. For 80 rushing yards, we get a 1.30x multiplier, and for 70 rushing yards, we are offered a 1.13x multiplier.

    Cashout Feature

The Cashout feature is an early cash-out option. The cash-out amounts will change in real time in response to what is happening on the field with your pick(s) at any given time. If your entry is eligible for a cash-out, you will see the option in your Entries tab, with the offer presented on a green button when available.

    Shield Play

Shield Play is a valuable feature that enables users to claim winnings, even if one or two of their picks have lost. You sacrifice some of your initial multiplier, but lower the probability-based risk, sometimes significantly. For an entry to be eligible for Shield Play, the user must select at least three picks that have a combined Shield Play multiplier of at least 1.5x following the use of the shield. Pay close attention to the different multipliers for Max Cash and Shield Play, as it is Shield Play that must be at 1.5x minimum to qualify. Now, for how it works: For entries with three to five picks, you can lose one leg and still win. For entries with six or more picks, you can lose two and still win. The multiplier you started with will go down for the pick that was removed and must remain above the 1.5x threshold. Those playing entries with three picks should pay close attention to injury reports, as a DNP or inactive on a three pick Shield Play will automatically convert to a Max Cash play that requires both picks to win.

    Week 1 Tips

    • Rookies are routinely undervalued early in the season in markets like this. Tre’Veyon Henderson is listed at 41.5 rushing yards, RJ Harvey is listed at 32.5 rushing yards, and Matthew Golden is listed at 44.5 receiving yards.
    • Don’t be afraid to use the Cash Out and Shield Play features, especially if bankroll building is one of your priorities. Finally, have fun and only work with amounts that keep your plays in the realm of entertainment.
    • Week 1 is known for aberrations and sometimes sloppy play, so keep that in mind when building your tickets.
