EuroBasket 2025 is into the 16-team knockout stage with plenty of NBA stars still competing to be crowned men’s basketball champions of Europe. There will not be a repeat champion, however. Spain, which won the competition in 2022, was ousted in the group stage in the 2025 event. The pre-tournament favorite won’t lift the trophy, either. Nikola Jokić and Serbia were knocked out of the bracket by Finland in the Round of 16 on Saturday in a major upset.
The knockout stage, including the third-place and championship game, will be held in Riga, Latvia. The Round of 16 tipped off Saturday.
EuroBasket 2025 is not short on star power. Luka Dončić is suiting up for his home country of Slovenia, while Jokić’, a three-time NBA MVP led Serbia. Giannis Antetokounmpo is participating for Greece once again. The promising young French duo of Zaccharie Risacher and Bilal Coulibaly are other names to watch. France’s Victor Wembanyama, however, is not be competing in EuroBasket after his NBA season was cut short by a blood clot in February.

Format
The tournament began with a group stage, with four groups consisting of six teams each. The group stage, which wrapped up on Sept. 4, was round-robin style play, in which each team played others in their respective group once. The top four teams in each group advanced to the knockout phase.
