Joe Rogan names ‘scariest’ fighter alive who had career killed by UFC rule change

Joe Rogan believes Vitor Belfort was the ‘scariest motherf—er’ alive in 2013.

‘The Phenom’ knocked out Michael Bisping, Luke Rockhold, and Dan Henderson in the same year

For those three fights, Vitor Belfort legally but controversially underwent testosterone replacement therapy [TRT].

‘The Phenom’ looked better than ever until TRT was outlawed in February 2014, just three months before his first-round middleweight title defeat to Chris Weidman.

Joe Rogan reflects on TRT Vitor

Joe Rogan recently sat down for a conversation with UFC legend Mark Kerr ahead of the release of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson‘s highly anticipated movie about his life.

The two men reflected on the old days, discussing a time when performance-enhancing drugs were prevalent in MMA.

As the sport grew, the UFC had to answer to athletic commissions, and the use of steroids became illegal.

Between 2007-2013, a TRT loophole opened up, and several big-name fighters began exploiting it.

Vitor Belfort was the most famous of them all because of the crazy impact it seemed to have on his performances inside the Octagon.

“He’s an interesting case study,” Rogan said about Belfort.

“First of all, a pioneer, right? First fought in the UFC at 19 years old, went through and won the tournament at 19, which is bananas.

“And then we got to see him get off the sauce, and his body kind of faded out. And then they brought back testosterone replacement. When testosterone replacement came in, all of a sudden, it was TRT Vitor and he was the scariest mothef—er for like five fights, or whatever it was, before they killed the TRT exemption.

“Then it all went away for him. Like, that should be a commercial for testosterone replacement.”

    Where is Vitor Belfort now?

Vitor Belfort has fought in MMA since suffering a front kick KO loss against Lyoto Machida in May 2018.

The 48-year-old looked like his best self when he crossed over to boxing for an exhibition three years later.

Belfort knocked out ring legend Evander Holyfield inside two minutes when they fought in September 2021.

An April 2023 boxing win over Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza was the last time Belfort fought competitively.

Belfort was supposed to box Wanderlei Silva on September 27, but their fight was recently called off.

It’s currently unclear if it will be rescheduled, but Belfort has shown no interest in retirement just yet.
