UFC CEO Dana White eliminated one potential matchup from headlining the upcoming White House card this summer as matchmaking begins.

UFC CEO Dana White and the matchmakers are in the process of plotting the promotion’s upcoming White House card this summer. Several marquee names, including Conor McGregor and Jon Jones, have publicly expressed interest in competing in the upcoming event.

It was originally anticipated that McGregor would finally settle his long-standing rivalry with Michael Chandler in the White House main event. But White recently shut down that possibility, hinting that the McGregor vs. Chandler fight is a thing of the past.

In the meantime, McGregor has been hypothetically matchmaked against the likes of Jorge Masvidal, Mauricio Ruffy, and others in recent days since White’s comments. Another unique matchup entered the rumor mill thanks to MMA publication Menace MMA HQ.

Menace MMA HQ reported that a matchup between McGregor and former title challenger Colby Covington was in the mix to headline the event, potentially.

It didn’t take long for White to respond to the report via Instagram.

“Total BS,” White said in a comment.

“White House matchmaking meeting is tomorrow. Mick Maynard flying in tomorrow for it.

“We will have fights dialed in by this weekend.”

McGregor hasn’t fought since injuring his leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. He was supposed to fight Chandler at UFC 303 in 2024 before withdrawing due to a toe injury.

White and the rest of the UFC matchmakers have a tall task in preparing the fight slate for one of the biggest events in the promotion’s history. While fans won’t be allowed to attend cageside, it’s expected to be a massive spectacle in the nation’s capital.

According to White, it sounds like we could get big news on the upcoming White House event in the next few weeks.
