THE Premier League have hinted at a potential Netflix-style streaming service for fans in the UK.

A direct-to-consumer platform is set to be launched – but it will first go to Singapore.

Prem chief executive Richard Masters revealed the news at the FT Business of Football Conference.

It raises the possibility of a similar launch for audiences in Europe in the future.

The decision comes amid wide-held frustration at the rising cost of watching football on TV.

Those in England already have to pay for Sky Sports and TNT Sports to get live PL action.

Last season Amazon Prime also showed games with the Champions League on TNT.

As the Premier League broadcast rights packages continue to go up in price – the last cycle from 2025 to 2029 was worth a total £6.7billion – so do subscriptions.

There is also disagreement between supporters over the 3pm blackout which means that even for over £50 a month, not all games are shown live.

Many have been calling for a centralised product from the Prem, like Netflix, to streamline coverage and reduce the price.

This latest announcement is being seen by some as a potential gateway to that coming further down the line.

One fan wrote on X: “Wow I guess that’s a test run. Sky would literally be finished”.

Another added: “This model is desperately needed. Imagine everyone worldwide has access for £10pm.

“In the UK we’ve been ripped off for years. The PL and clubs would make billions.

“Firesticks become redundant so that issue gets solved. I don’t see a downside for punters. It’s a win win.”

However, some are less trusting, with another account saying: “It’ll be £5 a month worldwide and £200 a month in the UK.”

How much does watching football cost?

The current cost of the subscription channels that will be needed from 2027 onwards…

    • Sky Sports – £20
    • TNT Sports – £27
    • Paramount+ – £10.99*
    • Amazon Prime Video – £5.99
    • Total: £63.98

*Price yet to be announced for sport
