Against all odds, Indiana University is now a football school.
That’s right, the school that’s won five national titles in men’s basketball — three of them under legendary coach Bob Knight — just completed one of the most dominant seasons in recent college football history, going 16-0 and holding off the Miami Hurricanes in Monday night’s championship game.
As The Athletic’s Christopher Kamrani wrote, “In just two years under the tantalizingly curt Curt Cignetti, Indiana has morphed itself from perennial embarrassment to an emphatic force to be reckoned with.”
To help put the Hoosiers’ accomplishments into perspective:
• They’re the first team to go 16-0 since 1894.
• They were the third team since 1945 to beat their opponents by an average of at least 10 points per game, winning by an average of 29.9.
• Before this season, they hadn’t won a postseason game since the 1991 Copper Bowl.
We’ll get into the Hoosiers in this week’s quiz, but as usual, there will be a whole lot more. Enjoy, and be sure to check out our daily Connections: Sports Edition as well.
