Tonight’s UFC Mexico City event was co-headlined by a men’s bantamweight bout featuring Marlon Vera taking on David Martinez.
Vera (23-12-1 MMA) had entered this evening’s bout with hopes of snapping a 3-fight losing skid. During that rough stretch, ‘Chito’ had dropped decisions to Sean O’Malley, Deiveson Figueiredo and Aiemann Zahabi respectively. The Ecuadorian’s most previous win had come way back at UFC 293 in August of 2023, where he defeated Pedro Munhoz by way of unanimous decision.
Meanwhile, David Martinez (14-1 MMA) had come into tonight’s co-headliner sporting a nine-fight winning streak, with his most previous triumph coming over Rob Font by way of unanimous decision this past September. Prior to that victory, ‘Black Spartan’ made his Octagon debut against Saimon Oliveira, a fight which he won by first-round TKO.
Tonight’s UFC Mexico City co-main event resulted in a strong showing for the up in comer in David Martinez. ‘Black Spartan’ was able to use his speed and footwork to get the better of Marlon Vera in the opening two rounds. However, ‘Chito’ eventually found his groove in the third and final round, but it wasn’t enough to get the stoppage or the judges’ decision.

Speed is a killer in this game and in the lower weight classes it’s often to much as Chito is finding out right now
— Josh Thomson (@THEREALPUNK) March 1, 2026
20-18 Martinez
Martinez looking great so far.
His footwork, control of space and striking paired with his chin can take him places. Chito starting to come on strong, though.

I have it 29-28 Martinez
Very spirited third round from Chito, but not sure it’s enough. Second round was the closest.
