Mike Tyson Nears Career End at 60 After Mayweather Snub, Injuries

Mike Tyson is nearing the end of his career as Floyd Mayweather’s recent cancellation of their exhibition may have put the final nail in the coffin.

Tyson’s Hall of Fame tenure, which amazingly extended at the age of 57 against Jake Paul in 2024, was heading for one final appearance with Mayweather.

For months, the fight had been talked about as if it was happening. A date was floated, attention followed, but the reality never matched the headlines, as the proposed event failed to develop beyond early discussion and quietly faded.

There was a lack of clarification, no venue, and no real push behind it. For a Floyd Mayweather event, that’s usually the biggest giveaway.

When Mayweather wants a fight, he promotes it. This time, he didn’t.

Instead, Mayweather moved on. His confirmed return against Mike Zambidis in Athens made it clear where his focus is, leaving the Tyson bout on the sidelines — most likely for good.

    Time and injuries

Time has now caught up with the idea as well.

Tyson turns 60 in June, and any further fights would be a massive surprise given everything that has already happened.

He almost died when the Paul fight was postponed from April to November two years ago, something Tyson himself later outlined in detail after a medical emergency on a flight left the former champion fighting for his life.

That alone should have been a warning.

Add in previous back surgeries, appearing with a cast on his arm just last month, and the copious amounts of cannabis Mike consumes, another comeback looks out of bounds.

Tyson has pushed through plenty before, but this is a different situation altogether for the hard-hitting New Yorker.

    Final chapter

The Mayweather fight was the one that could have sent Mike out with a fanfare.

It had the name, the curiosity, and the kind of setting that could have allowed Tyson one last appearance without everything that comes with a full return.

Now it’s gone and his fight with Paul looks to be all she wrote.

World Boxing News has already reported on former Tyson rival Oliver McCall continuing to fight at 61, but Tyson has never been that type of fighter.

Unless he gets a full bill of health in the coming months, boxing fans have likely seen the last of the youngest heavyweight champion of all time.

At this point, the opportunity has passed, and nothing else on the table carries the same weight.

That, more than anything, is why this feels like Mike Tyson’s swansong has already happened.
