The Muhammad Ali Revival Act has many worried but Ali’s grandson is intimating that there are positive developments presently in motion. These happenings curiously coincide with a meaningful anniversary of Ali himself rallying against a broader socio political oriented movement that he ardently opposed.
Fifty nine years ago on this very day [April 28th], Muhammad Ali refused induction into the Vietnam draft. The stance that ‘The Greatest’ took saw him pay a toll in the form of losing his heavyweight titles and missing out on what many saw as the prime years of his athletic career. This before Ali eventually returned to the ring in 1970 to author more chapters to his iconic story.
The Muhammad Ali American Boxing Revival Act was passed by the House of Representatives in March. The attempt to overhaul a bill designed to create federal protections around fighters picked up steam at a US Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation hearing that transpired last week.
TKO has played a huge role in spearheading this push for amendments in the bill with TKO figurehead Nick Khan present at the hearing. Also, at the hearing was former multi-division champion and promoter Oscar De La Hoya as well as the aforementioned grandson of Ali, Nico Ali Walsh.
Taking to his personal X account @nicoaliwalsh to touch on his grandfather’s historical milestone as well as touting the successes of their Ali Revival Act efforts, Ali Walsh said,
“TODAY, on the 59th anniversary of my grandfather taking a stand for what he believed in and refusing induction, we made meaningful progress with Senators on the Ali Revival Act. Fighters, your rights are on the line. Speak up.”

The desire from those pushing for this Muhammad Ali Revival Act legislation is aimed to create Unified Boxing Organisations which would give allowance for UBO’s to concurrently serve as both promoter and governing body . This is seen as something would muddy the waters of meritocracy in the sport and threaten established sanctioning bodies ala WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO, etc.
