Welcome to the season when NFL prospects and their agents show you… what they want to show you.

Between the NFL Combine schedule and Pro Days, we gain more info about players and perhaps even overthink what we already know. I wrote an article last year entitled A Summary of Combine Research & What Matters if you want a deeper dive on the subject.

Editors Note: For more on each rookie, check out Andy, Mike, and Jason’s exclusive rookie rankings and production profiles found only in the Dynasty Pass, part of the UDK+ for 2026.

    Pro Day Thoughts

Pro Days are self-contained events on college campuses meant to not only showcase players for the upcoming NFL Draft but also a chance for the universities to “show out”. There is a personal aspect to bringing someone to your “home” in which we all want to show off and highlight the best of what we have. Beyond being a “dog and pony show”, this part of the process seriously does inform the next month of NFL evaluators including how they will utilize their top-30 visits. I wrote a top-30 visit article last year on that part of the draft process if you want another piece of the puzzle.

Some of the information from Pro Days will feel repetitive for those that participated in the combine but it is an opportunity for evaluators to snoop around, ask questions to positional coaches, and dig deeper.

Pro Day times related to speed such as the 40-yard dash can be incredibly unreliable. It is 2026! Can we not just all agree that honesty is important in this business? The general rule of thumb is to add at least 0.10 seconds to the 40-time after it is run. Nothing better than a local college coach getting to boast that his WR ran a 4.4 when in reality, this was a 4.55.

“What am I not seeing?” is a question I ask often when evaluating prospects on film and the Pro Day should feel no different. It is easy to splice together highlight reel takes and forget that we are looking at college football players; in other words, the majority of players the prospect faced will never be playing on an NFL field and likely will be vying to sell you life insurance or go to high school coaching.

For the players who did not participate in the combine, what are they being asked to do now at their Pro Day? What are they “showing off” and is that skill even valuable for us?

    Remember Zach Wilson.

Beyond the drills, QBs participate in throwing to receivers running a number of different routes: Slant, Curl, End Zone Fade, Sail, Post/Corner, and a Go Route. All of which have zero defenders on the field. “Throwing against air” in shorts whether at the Combine or Pro Days ultimately should not sway billion dollar organizations. Right?

Annual reminder (before Pro Day/combine szn starts)
