Week 10 kicks off on Thursday Night Football with the New York Jets and New England Patriots as these AFC East rivals are coming off big wins last week, but with their seasons headed in two very different. The Patriots are winners of eight consecutive games and looking like the team to beat in the AFC. Meanwhile, the Jets have won their first two games of the season in back-to-back weeks.

Just halfway through the season, and the Jets (2-7) are looking to play the role of spoiler against a red-hot Patriots team. Last week wasn’t a pretty win, but with two big special teams touchdowns, New York was able to outscore Cleveland 27-20. If they hope to get a win against the Patriots, the Jets will need much more out of quarterback Justin Fields, as he had just 54 yards passing in Week 10.

Through 10 games, New England (8-2) has emerged as one of the best teams in the league during this seven-game winning streak. In Week 10, they went on the road to beat Tampa Bay behind a 147-yard rushing, two-touchdown breakout performance from rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson. Drake Maye continued to play with poise, adding 270 passing yards and two touchdowns.

    Jets-Patriots start time: 8:15 p.m. ET

That’s four third-down conversions already for the Jets, as Justin Fields finds midseason acquisition Adonai Mitchell for a 10-yard pass.

Jets win the toss and elect to receive first. And then it doesn’t take long for New York’s offense to get going, getting three third-down conversions to push into New England territory.

The Jets rarely score on their first drive, getting only four touchdowns in the past 60 opening drives, per the broadcast. Can they change that today?

Yahoo Sports’ Nate Tice thinks so:

Maye is first in dropback success rate on a high volume. He accumulated the most EPA on his dropbacks among all quarterbacks and is fourth in EPA per dropback. He’s fourth in net yards per attempt despite a high rate of sacks, which he’s taking thanks to a combination of the Patriots’ offensive line still being a work in progress and Maye eating sacks to try and limit the damage done to himself and on a given play when he’s under pressure.

Maye has shown the ability to push the ball to all areas of the field, with accuracy and plenty of pace behind his throws, too. He’s explosive as a passer and as a runner, and is always in an attack mode even when the Patriots are behind the sticks.

Read more on why Tice thinks Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is the pick for NFL MVP through 10 weeks (and his picks for the rest of his NFL midseason awards).

ESPN reporter Rich Chimini broke the news on Monday that All-Pro wideout Garrett Wilson was expected to miss 3-4 weeks with a sprained knee.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn didn’t appear too happy with the report, getting chippy with reporters who asked for injury updates:

“I’m going to pass on talking about injuries since Rich,” Glenn said Tuesday during a Week 11 news conference before pointing and then adding, “oh, he’s not here … has all the answers.

“So you guys can get all the injuries from Rich.”

Reporters continued to press Glenn for his own answer to their questions before he replied, “You guys have been hearing from me, but now, since we’re just reporting stuff that I haven’t said, then maybe you should ask him.”

Not good … not good at all.

Second-year quarterback Drake Maye has thrived under head coach Mike Vrabel in 2025, leading the team to an 8-2 record and a surprising lead in the AFC East.

That performance has understandably earned him MVP buzz — currently only ranked behind Rams QB Matthew Stafford (+275) in odds to win the coveted award at BetMGM Sportsbook at +300.

Just how good has his season been? A look at where he ranks among quarterbacks in various statistics this season tells an intriguing story.

Here’s a look at his stats this year and where he ranks in those categories among quarterbacks with 150 dropbacks this year, per PFF:

      • 8.9 yards per pass attempt (2nd)

      • 71.7% completion rate (2nd)

      • 5.6% big-time throw rate (5th)

      • 113.9 NFL passer rating (5th)

      • 21 completions of 20+ passing yards (tied-2nd)

      • 145.2 passer rating on deep throws (2nd)

It’s no secret that the New York Jets haven’t exactly been off to a stellar start to the 2025 season, with a 2-7 record through 10 weeks.

Things only got worse coming out of Week 10, despite a win over the Cleveland Browns, with the news that star wide receiver Garrett Wilson would miss 3-4 weeks with a knee injury. The Jets officially ruled him out for Week 11 on Wednesday and placed him on injured reserve ahead of Thursday’s game.

It’s more bad news for a passing offense that was already struggling to find its footing with quarterback Justin Fields, who’s had fewer than 10 completions and 54 passing yards in four separate games started this year.

Wilson unsurprisingly leads the team in targets (59), receptions (36), receiving yards (395) and receiving touchdowns (4).

His absence will require an already barren receiving corps to step up. The team did make two moves to acquire some receiver help ahead of the trade deadline with Adonai Mitchell, who was acquired in the trade of Sauce Gardner to the Colts, and John Metchie III in a swap with the Eagles.

Beyond that, the rest of the depth chart consists of fourth-round rookie Arian Smith, who’s run the second-most routes on the team this year per PFF, and veteran Josh Reynolds.

Among those who could be the biggest beneficiaries of opportunity in Wilson’s absence is rookie tight end Mason Taylor, who ranks second on the team in targets and receiving yards as a second-round pick out of LSU.
